VS2005 Beta 2, Day 2

Well, after a bit of Scotch, a bit of sleep, and a few more props, it's time for me to reflect on the rolling blunder that was the Beta 2 launch.

  • Some email break down: 309 messages sent in the last 7 days, 561 this month (OK, nothing extraordinary there)
  • File prop jobs (note, this doesn't count the big push, as Chris did all that): 23, some files went up three or four times
  • Number of apologies made: I think I'm well over 100 now, and that is just to Dan and Brian.
  • Number of days in the last week that I couldn't send email because of the size of my Inbox (that is, over 200MB: 1 - however, I got warnings every day this week that it was over 180MB)
  • only one commando, 11pm code fix

In all, probably a fairly normal launch process. Whether it's code on disc or code on Web, it seems like there is always a degree of headless chicken to the process. It's just easier to fix the Web stuff. As I write this, at 2:30, things seem to have calmed down. Perhaps it's just because the people sending me bugs have finally given up, or passed out.

Hmmm. Time will tell. I have to go resolve a few bugs.
